Alternatours provides a unique opportunity to spend time in a small Andean community and make a great difference in the lives of a family that lives there.  The mission of Alternatours has been to expose foreigners to the reality of the Peruvian campesino (countryperson or farmer) to facilitate understanding and at the same time give the tourist the opportunity to make a real impact on the lives of one family. The trip is 5 days long and includes food, accommodation, transport and everything else you might need.  You will spend three of the days in the actual community two of which you swill spend in part building a cooking stove.
Open fire cooking is suspected to be the 4th leading cause of death among campesino women in underdeveloped countries. Many projects have to improve cooking techniques and build stove but often the stove is of such poor quality that it lasts only a few years and the family quickly reverts to their old ways. The stove that you will provide is highly functionally and built like a tank. The food and lodging is of great quality and you won’t get a better, longer, hotter shower in all of the Andes.
